LoTi Observer Introduction

The LoTi Observer is an online tool with a component for the handheld computer that automatically calculates a teacher's LoTi Level based on an administrator's recorded walkthrough observations. The LoTi Observer provides a powerful system for mobile data collection and analysis of LoTi behaviors in the classroom. Three observation walkthrough templates are currently available in the LoTi Observer including the LoTi Form, the H.E.A.T. Form, and the H.E.A.R.T. Form. Chapter One explains how to set up the LoTi Observer including accessing the online application and installing the LoTi Observer iPhone web application.

Using the LoTi Observer to Conduct Observation Walkthroughs

The LoTi Observer online application was designed to work in synchronization with the LoTi Observer handheld application as a quick and easy means of obtaining and reporting information on classroom instructional practices. Using the LoTi Observer, administrators can perform observation walkthroughs in a classroom on an iPhone or iPod Touch then upload the walkthrough information to the LoTi Observer online and obtain a report on the observed Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi) and Current Instructional Practices (CIP). The LoTi Observer online application and the LoTi Observer iPhone web application contain the same observation walkthrough templates and can be used independent of one another if desired, but were designed to be used in unison.

Accessing the LoTi Lounge Web Site

The LoTi Observer is a component application at the LoTi Lounge web site. Access to the LoTi Lounge web site is free for all educators in the United States and Puerto Rico. You must be a registered LoTi Lounge user to login to the LoTi Lounge, but registration is free of charge and only takes about five minutes.

LoTi Lounge Instructions for New Users

NEW users are defined as educators who have never previously registered in the LoTi Lounge.

  1. Access the LoTi Lounge at: http://www.lotilounge.com
  2. Click on the link that says Sign Me Up! (in the 'I'm a New User' section of the LoTi Lounge login block) to complete a ONE TIME registration sequence that will both identify you as part of your group and as an individual user.
  3. Follow the registration instructions on the screen. You will first be prompted to enter your Group ID and Password.
Your Group ID and Password is the name of your state spelled out in lower-case letters.
For example:
   GroupID: arizona
   Password: arizona
  1. Next, you will be prompted to enter your User Information including a User ID and Password of your choosing (NOT the state Group ID and Password as explained above). This User ID and password should be something you will remember as it is what you will use to login to LoTi Lounge in the future.
  2. Next, you will be prompted to enter your Email address. Entering a valid email address is necessary to have full access to the LoTi Lounge.
  3. Finally, you will be prompted to select your organization from a structural list that has already been entered into the computer based on the Group ID you were given. Choose your school district, then your school (when the list refreshes) and click 'Continue' to complete the registration process.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you WRITE DOWN your selected User ID and User Password information as it is necessary to re-access the LoTi Lounge system.

LoTi Lounge Instructions for Returning Users

RETURNING users are defined as educators who have already registered in the LoTi Lounge, and who already have a LoTi Lounge User ID and User Password.

  1. Access the LoTi Lounge at: http://www.lotilounge.com
  2. Enter your previously registered User ID and Password in the fields provided (in the 'I'm already registered' section of the LoTi Lounge login block), then click 'Submit' to enter the LoTi Lounge. If you are a registered user but do not remember your LOGIN information, click on the Need help signing in? link. Entering your email address will prompt the LoTi Lounge system to email you a copy of your previously registered User ID and Password.

Accessing the LoTi Observer Online

If your group has purchased a license to the LoTi Observer, a LoTi Observer link will appear on the For Administrators Only section of the Main Menu at the LoTi Lounge web site. If you login to the LoTi Lounge and do not have the link for LoTi Observer, please contact your group representative (e.g., district administrator, school administrator) about obtaining a license. Access to the LoTi Observer application can be obtained for a nominal fee. To access the LoTi Observer online:

  1. Click on the LoTi Observer link in the For Administrators Only section of the LoTi Lounge Main Menu.

Accessing the LoTi Observer on an iPhone or iPod Touch

To use the LoTi Observer on an iPhone or iPod Touch, the device must be configured to connect to the Internet. An iPhone or iPod Touch uses a WiFi internet connection (the iPhone can also use the always-on EDGE or 3G cell data connection) to obtain and install the LoTi Observer web application and to upload your observations to the LoTi Observer server. An internet connection is required in order to download a list of specific teachers to be observed and to upload the observation data to the LoTi Observer server.

Once you have logged in and downloaded your teacher list you can use LoTi Observer when disconnected from the internet (offline mode) to create observations and conduct walkthroughs.

Chapter Two provides detailed instructions for installing, configuring and using LoTi Observer on an iPhone or iPod Touch

If you are experiencing difficulties getting the LoTi Observer to run on your device, please contact the NBEA technical support help desk at: http://www.loticonnection.com/techsupport.html
